The Most Magical Place on Earth

Updated: Apr 6, 2020

What's a trip to Orlando without visiting Disney's Magic Kingdom? This park is the home of all things Disney, quite different to Epcot which we visited last week.

At this time of year they're gearing up for Halloween so the park is decorated with pumpkins and fall decor!

It'll come as no surprise that I recommend you pre-book your tickets and Fastpass rides online before you visit! When choosing which rides to Fastpass (you get to choose three before you enter the park and then once you've used these you can book one more at a time) try and think about what will have the longest queues and which rides are 'slow loaders'. For example Space Mountain or Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin may be your favourites, but these queues tend to move quite quickly, whereas Splash Mountain is notorious for long and slow lines, so use your Fastpass on this. Also try and make sure your Fastpass tickets are pre-booked for as early in the day as possible so that you're then freed up to book more later in the day.

Also consider when you want to do rides that will almost definitely get you soaked. Would you rather do them in the heat of the day and hopefully dry off quickly, or towards the end when you can head home in your car soon after? When we were kids we used to leave towels in the boot of the car to wrap up in on the journey home, just something worth considering.

We headed to Tomorrowland first thing and quickly did some of the 'big hitter' rides such as Space Mountain and the Speedway before the queues built up. Always get to the park for opening, it's so worth it to skip some of the long queues. Note that once you're parked at Magic Kingdom it still takes around 30 more minutes to actually get to the park on either the monorail or ferryboat.

Some queuing is unavoidable! But Disney are great at keeping lines out of the sun and mostly indoors with AC to keep you cool. Make sure you stay hydrated, take a water bottle and keep refilling it around the park.

The parade is also great to check out to see all your favourite characters! We skipped this as Hannah and I have recently been to Disneyland Paris and watched the parade there, but it's great fun to watch!

One thing you absolutely do not want to miss is the Magic Kingdom fireworks. They are without a doubt the best fireworks and illuminations show I have ever watched, both in Orlando and Paris. I am not ashamed to say I shed a tear, they're just pure magic. Everyone gathers around the castle as darkness falls, and they project the most incredible scenes onto the castle, with all your favourite Disney soundtracks. Watch out for Tinkerbell flying through the sky right at the end!

Now head home to bed to dream of all things Disney Princess!
