Our Lounge and Dining Room
Updated: Jun 23, 2020
It's been a while since a wrote a blog post (and a very crazy few weeks right?!)
Before the UK was put on a lockdown and we all had to social distance, George and I moved house. I'm now incredibly thankful that we had a quick move, because a month later and it may well have all been delayed/fallen through. We moved into our new cottage in early February (it was a nightmare of a moving day, but that's a story for another time!)
Since moving in we've been hard at work painting lots of walls and getting started on the garden. I can't wait for the summer months when I'll (hopefully) have lots of flowers blooming in my new cutting garden!
We painted the lounge first at it was the room that we spend most of our time in and needed the biggest refresh. The chimney breast was red, but now the whole room is painted in Dulux's Summer Linen. A really fresh but warm off white, it looks great in here with all the light that flows in.
We originally put the gold mirror in here that we had in the lounge in our old house, but it just didn't quite fit with these surroundings. So we switched in this marble mirror that we used to have in a spare bedroom and I think it looks so much better.
We had the curtains and blinds made by Blinds Direct and they came within a few working days.
I didn't want a double set of curtains over the patio doors, so just had a single curtain made big enough to pull across the doors, that hangs on the left side.
(Pepper is enjoying this sunny weather we're having!)
I feel like things are starting to find their home, it always feels a bit weird having everything you own thrown into a new space.
I still need to get a plant to put in that hanging planter.
Lighting the fire on cold nights is a dream, listening to the logs sizzle in the wood burner.
The next room we tackled was the dining room. We went with a slightly lighter colour on the walls in here as this room doesn't get as much natural light. Dulux's Timeless is true to it's name, an off-white that will never go out of fashion.
We've changed all the light fixtures too, for a more contemporary look.
The blinds are from Blinds 2 Go, and I love the stripe pattern we chose, but I don't think they're as good quality as the ones we have in the living room.
I wasn't planning on keeping the bistro sign in here, it just got plonked on two nails sticking out from the beam, but I kind of love it there now! I feel so spoilt that we have not one, but two log burners in this house. So cosy on cooler nights, we've already used them loads.
We still want to get a display cabinet/dresser to go to the left of the fireplace here, but I haven't quite decided what colour to go for.
Next on our list is the utility I think, but that's a bigger project! In the meantime I'll be planting out the garden ready to enjoy on these sunny days.
