My Daily Make-up Routine
Updated: Sep 6, 2019
I've had a few people recently ask about my favourite and most used make-up products, so I'd thought I'd write a post with all the info in one place. I have used most of these products for years, so they're very well tried and tested. However, I would say that what works for me may not suit your skin type/tone. I always try and get testers for higher end products before splashing out on a full size product. I also love my monthly subscription to Birchbox, as it allows me to try new make-up and skincare solutions without committing to full size prices.
I've used No7's Airbrush Away Primer for a couple of years now. There's a few in the range, each targeting specific issues. I'm currently using the Colour Balancing Primer, but in the past I've used the Pore Minimising Primer as well. I apply with my fingers across my whole face in a circular motion.
I am a loyal Bourjois Paris Foundation user. I have used the Healthy Mix Foundation since I was a teenager. At times I've strayed and tried others, but I always come back to this for my daily look. It stays on all day long (I work 12.5 hour shifts so I've definitely put it to the test!) and gives a lovely creamy warm glow as a base to the rest of my make-up. And best of all, it's really affordable. I use shade 52 Vanilla, or 53 Light Beige if I have a tan.
When I was getting married I wanted something extra special for my wedding day, so had lots of make-up counter sessions to try and find the perfect fit. Lots of people recommended Estee Lauder Double Wear, but I found it too heavy and 'clay-like'. Luckily, they brought out a lighter version that still has excellent coverage, but doesn't feel as weighty. I now wear Estée Lauder's Double Wear Light for special occasions when I want an extra boost to my complexion. I use shade Dawn, or Tawny if I've got a tan.
I apply my foundation using the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush for a perfectly smooth finish.
Benefit's Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer is great for smoothing out any flaws or problem areas. It's so creamy and smooth, literally like airbrushing away your flaws. I use shade 02.
I use the Bourjois Paris Healthy Mix Pressed Powder to give my foundation extra staying power (I have slightly oily skin that needs mattifying a bit). I use shade 02 and apply using Ecotool's Precision Blush Brush (I like a brush with quite short bristles for applying powder).
I stumbled across this highlighter whilst browsing in Next. I prefer a powdered highlight compared to liquid, and I apply after my pressed powder. The Nx Highlighter Powder has a lovely golden tone to it, so doesn't leave you looking washed out.
Again, I've used this Bourjois product for years. The Little Round Pot Blusher has great pigment so you don't need much at all! I've switched up shades, but my favourite is Rose Coup De Foudre. I apply blusher with the Spectrum MA05 brush.
Now stay with me here. I spent years and years searching for the perfect matte bronzer, until I came across a beauty vlogger who was using a bronzer from Poundland. I kid you not, it is the best day to day bronzer I have ever used. With no shimmer or sparkle it doesn't look like you've overdone it for a daily make up look. I apply across the top of my forehead, under my cheekbones and under my jawline. It's called Make Up Gallery Good to Glow in Matte and I use shade Medium. You can thank me later!
If I want more of a glow for a night time look I use Bobbi Brown's Shimmer Brick in Bronze. If you've saved so much on your daily bronzer, you can splurge on a luxury one. I use a large domed brush to apply.
Nothing beats Benefit's Precisely My Brow, a really thin pencil for thin hair-like strokes. I have shade 04. To set my eyebrows and give them some texture/depth I use L'Oreal Paris Brow Artist Plumper in Dark Brunette.
To lift and accentuate brows I recommend the Benefit High Brow Creamy Eyebrow Highlighter and lightly blend in.
I switch between wearing eyeshadow or a liquid liner depending on my mood. My favourite palette is Maybelline's Burgundy Bar. I use the nudes/golden colours in the day, and the darker browns, reds and purples to dress up my eyes for a night time look. Spectrum brushes MB03 and MB04 are perfect for perfectly blended lids.
If I fancy eyeliner, I use Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner for the perfect flicks. It's got great pigmentation and only takes one stroke for perfect density.
I'm not particularly loyal to a mascara, I switch it up regularly. However, one that I do particularly like is Bobbi Brown's Eye Opening Mascara in Black. It's got a large brush that fans out lashes, giving a wide-eye high drama look. Sometimes I use this without any other eye make-up for a simple but classic daytime look.
My lip colour is something I change up often, but I do tend to stick to neutral/coral colours as they suit my skin tone best.
