Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

I make no secret of my love for all things floral. So on our way back from the Cape of Good Hope we decided to make a stop at Cape Town's botanical gardens to see some very special flowers.
As you head through the turnstiles keep heading forwards towards the ponds, past all the wild flowers. Keep an eye out for the birds that are all over the gardens, they are as beautiful as the flowers (and very friendly!).
Head up the steps, and take in the incredible backdrop that the mountain provides.
It's hard to go anywhere in Cape Town without being able to see the beautiful figure of Table Mountain in the background, it dominates every skyline.
Keep going up and up the hillside, almost to the top, until you reach a little garden dedicated to the flower of South Africa. The Protea!
These beauties grow wild all over the country, in so many different colours and shades.
They look like pin cushions!
One little guy wasn't happy about the flowers getting all the attention, so started to show off his own bright colours.
I didn't even have my zoom lens out for this, he was more than happy for a close up photoshoot. Definitely a ladies man!
We found a shady bench to put our feet up and watch the world go by for a few minutes.
This would be a gorgeous place to bring a picnic, and in the Summer they also put on concerts in the evenings, which look amazing!
The gardens are huge, I've barely shown you a needle in a haystack (or should I say pin in a cushion!). With plants and trees from all over Africa, so different to what we have in the UK!
