A Trip to the Beach
Updated: Apr 6, 2020
We arrived in California yesterday and made it up to Lake Tahoe late last night, after a solid 25 hours of travelling. The snow had been coming down so heavily that multiple roads were closed. Luckily our rental car is a 4 x 4 Jeep well up to the job of taking on some serious conditions. We took it slow and stuck to roads that were still open (with tyre and chain restrictions).
Today we woke up to find that the snow had been falling all night and our cabin and car were buried!
We spent about 30 minutes digging our way to and into the car (that's the royal we, there was only one shovel so I "helped" by sweeping snow off the Jeep), and then headed in search of breakfast.
After some hot food and coffees to warm up we took ourselves off to "the beach".
Lake Tahoe in February is not your average beach experience.
But not something to turn your nose up at. With the sun shining brightly overhead and the water lapping up to the snow I just couldn't stop smiling.
Every single shade of blue for as far as the eye can see.
We carefully stepped out onto the icy pier, holding on for extra grip. The water is only 5 degrees centigrade so if you fell in you wouldn't last long!
It is one of the most wonderful beach days I've ever had! We'd love to come back in the summer months and get out on the water. The canoes are currently all stored away for the winter season.
A trip to the beach we'll always remember!
