A Day in The Cotswolds
Updated: Apr 6, 2020
The Cotswolds are fast becoming one of my favourite places on earth, and luckily it's only an hours drive from where we live! Seeing as the weather was set to be so gorgeous this weekend we planned a last minute day trip to soak up some sunshine, and I'm so glad we did!
We packed up the picnic hamper (its first outing of the year) and got on the road. We had decided we wanted to do a short hike whilst there and I found a website with lots of options. We chose this one as we wanted to explore a couple of villages as well as the beautiful rolling countryside.
We parked in Stanton (which is so wonderful I've already decided we're going to move there) and headed off on our route. The scenery is just incredible and worth slogging up all the steep hills for!
I love me a red telephone box so I was taking photos of every single one we walked past, much to George's distain.
The walk was a little more strenuous at times than I'd anticipated, and it was absolutely baking hot, so by the time we got back to the car we had definitely earned our lunch. After a quick drink stop in the garden at The Mount Inn, we hopped back in the car and drove to Bourton-on-the-Water. I visited this little town with friends last year and remembered it being so picturesque. However, I think every single person in The Cotswolds had also had the same idea and it was absolutely heaving! Luckily we snagged ourselves a quieter spot by the water and dug straight into our feast.
The entire time we were there I kept pointing at houses and saying "oh look, but couldn't you just see us living in that one!", but I think the stunning thatched cottage came out the true winner.
I mean, just look at it!
After a lovely day exploring old haunts and new, it was time to drive home.
I'm definitely going to making this short journey more this Summer and exploring new parts of this beautiful countryside that's so close to us!
